(1) Soup with radix astragali (Huangqi), radix codonopsis pilosulae (Dangshen) and pig liver

Ingredients:

  • Radix astragali (Huangqi) 4 quian or 12 grams
  • Radix codonopsis pilosulae (Dangshen) 12 grams,
  • pig liver  20  grams,
  • lean pork 20  grams,
  • small amount of salt.
Cooking Method:

 

  1. Wash the pig liver and lean pork with water, cut into thin slices. Clean radix astragali (Huangqi) and radix codonopsis pilosulae (Dangshen) with water.
  2. Put all ingredients into a stewing pot.  Add adequate amount of boiled water and stew for 2 to 3 hours.  Add small of salt when eating.
Effect:

 

  1. Radix astragali (Huangqi) is sweet in taste, slightly warm; it supplements qi and raises yang, makes the exterior firm and stops perspiration, promotes water excretion and eliminates edema.
  2. Radix codonopsis pilosulae (Dangshen) is sweet in taste, slightly warm; it strengthens the middle-jiao and reinforces qi, promotes formation of body fluid and nourishment of blood.
  3. Pig liver is bitter in taste, slightly cold; it nourishes liver, lightens the sight and supplements blood.
  4. Pork is rich in nutrition; it nourish yin and supplements muscle, lubricates intestines and replenishes stomache.
Suitable for

 

  • It is particularly effective inpatients with insufficiency of blood, low protein, hypotension and hypoglycemia, especially in female patients with premenstrual distress, loss of menstrual blood and in weak and undernourished patients for the supplement of qi and blood and strengthening of primordial energy.
