(13) Is it true that if you eat no fat, you will not get fat?

It is correct for fat people to pay attention to the intake of quantity and quality of fat.  However, some people believe that they should eat no fat – they extract axunge with absorbent paper during meal, or extrude fatty liquid with chopsticks when they clamp food for eating, and avoid adding oil during cooking. In fact, this is by no means an effective way of avoiding intake of fat. This only shows that they are unfamiliar with the metabolism of fat in our body.

When a person has hepatitis and accompanied with anemia, hypoproteinemia and endocrine disorder, hepatic edema and secondary obesity may develop. Under such circumstance, he should maintain a balanced diet with a fair portion of nutrients, fat and sugar. Even when a person takes in no fat, fatty acid can also be synthesized from sugar and precursor substances of amino acids. When a person ingests excessive sugar, the incretion of insulin will increase and then sugar will be transformed into fat. Chronic hepatitis patients should therefore select vegetable oil with unsaturated fatty acid if they intake fat in their meal.
